The "Keystone Kops" was a popular silent film comedy series made between 1912 and 1917 about a group of totally incompetent policemen. What differentiated their bumbling behavior from the ordinary was the level of energy and activity with which they went about their foolishness. Jump ahead to 2007-2010, and meet the Keystone Kops in the form of the Town of Nolensville's Planning Commission and Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

There is an old phrase that goes "pulling the wool over your eyes." Not too surprisingly, it has its roots in government. The phrase derives from the 16th and 17th centuries when it was fashionable for officials to wear woolen wigs. The phrase means to deceive, to hoodwink. It was a word picture of pulling anther's wig over their eyes so they could not see.
While time has moved on there are some who would still "pull the wool over your eyes." Nolensville is experiencing just such a practice today--even if no one is wearing woolen wigs here.

They say that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I wonder how this applies when it comes to sign ordinances in Nolensville. Did you know that if you hold a yard sale you are required by law to get a permit from Town Hall, and that if you put up signs ANYWHERE, including your own yard, you have to have signed permission forms from the property owners where you plan to place your signs submitted and approved by the government of Nolensville?

Editor's Note: I've been saying this for years. Now you can hear it from someone else. :-)
Do Something by Kurt DuNard The Exceptional Life Coach
Nike has a clever advertising slogan that says “Just do it.” That slogan triggers all kinds of pictures in the reader’s mind. But the main thing it does for many people is that it triggers the image of winning at some athletic event even if that person does not consider himself or herself a winner. Or it might trigger the image of just doing it—just starting that walking program to lose a few pounds. Nike’s clever slogan is tailored for each individual and is as different as every person, because each individual imagines what “just doing it” means; it becomes a personal phrase. What Nike hopes for is that you will imagine “Just doing it” in a pair of Nike shoes.

It never ceases to amaze me how some seemingly intelligent people will get a notion in their heads, and then in direct opposition to everything logical, as well as to public outcry, will stand and defend that idea in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Case in point, the “new town hall” project, or as I prefer to call it, “the Nolensville Taj Mahal.”
Over two years ago developer Bill Tisano, proposed to remodel his shopping center. Once town government got involved, the project grew from a simple facelift to a complete multi-million dollar overhaul and rebirth as "Town Center" and home of a new Town Hall. Naturally Tisano would pay substantially higher fees and development costs with the more expansive, more expensive plan.
