Who knew when I asked Gardiner way back when to add a topic called "Pages from the Past" that I would now be given about 35 history and books of records of Nolensville and Williamson Co. There are LOTS of pages from the past; records from 1800, many of them copied pages of beautiful flowing script or written on a typewriter.
This is some of the most fascinating reading I have ever done besides the 5 historical journals published by the Historical Society, and the big "red book" (Nolensville 1797-1987, Reflections of a Tennessee Town)published by ladies of the Rec Center.
The journals are for sale but the "red book" is out of print. It is available to read at the library, but not for checkout.
I am donating these books to the future Nolensville museum in the Community Center as soon as the Historical Society (I am so proud to be a member of) gets it safely rewired and up to Nolensville codes.
We have plans for that old building this community is going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way us "longtimers" remember.
In the meantime, we're going to add some fun to this community website. Who wants to borrow a book and help me post excerpts from public records for all our readers to enjoy? Gardiner, I have one for you, "Our Valient Men" by Louise Gillespie Lynch. Its about Revolutionary War soldiers left out of most public records because they moved after the war, but were
still on pension rolls.
I will also contact the authors to see if we can use excerpts from their books too. They are AMAZING
to this former history class hater. The court depositions are especially fun. They are public record,
so enjoy an excert of "Loose Records" Louise Lynch found in boxes at the old jail in Franklin, and preserved in book form--volumes of them all typewritten.
